The Singapore Koi Club was conceived and formed by a group of doctors and koi hobbyists in 1989 as a Chapter of Zen Nippon Arinkai Japan with the good effort of the late Mr Lim Kim San, former Cabinet Minister, together with his good buddies, Dr Tan Cheng Bock and Dr W C Cheng. At the inaugural meeting, Dr Tan Cheng Bock (Former MP for Ayer Rajah and Leader of Singapore, Europe SEA Parliamentary Group) was elected as the Chartered President, with Dr W.C. Cheng as the 1st Vice President, and Dr Jimmy Beng as the Honorary Secretary. The late Mr Lim Kim San, one of the Singapore's Founding Fathers and former Cabinet Minister, was then invited to be the Patron of the Club.
The Late Mr Lim Kim San passed away on 20 July 2006 and the post was left vacant until this year when the Club’s new General Committee headed by our current President Mr Jemmy Tan approached Dr Tan Cheng Bock and invited him to be our Patron. Dr Tan accepted the appointment and during the EGM on 18 August 2012 he was appointed Patron of the Singapore Koi Club.
Until now, the Club still has the following chartered members who were conferred as life members of the Club due to their long standing and continuous membership of the Club while Dr Tan remained as Patron & Chartered President and Dr W.C. Cheng as Honorary President: Mr Richard Tan, Mr Jerry Chan, mr Eric Lim, Mr Wong Liang keen and Mr See Yee Hoi
Over the years, the Club has grown from 28 members to around 110 today given the usual fluctuation of its memberships with 10 members awarded as ZNA judges to judge Koi shows all over the world.
The Club seek not only to promote community friendship but also the love of koi and koi keeping amongst the koi fraternity both in Singapore and abroad. We hope to also develop stronger bond between the General committee and our members as well as associate members and also stronger affiliations with ZNA International and other ZNA Chapters worldwide.
